Agroforestry Practices, Registration of Trees and Mapping to Promote Deforestation-Free Cocoa Production

On July 18th, 2024, GCCFA held a workshop on agroforestry practices, tree mapping, and registration to promote deforestation-free cocoa production. This training is part of a bigger FFF project that aims to mitigate the effects of climate change and improve livelihoods. Farmers were selected from Baakoye, Amansieman, and the Freedom and Unity Cooperative Union.

The training was conducted to educate farmers on the necessary knowledge and management procedures for economic trees such as oframo, emire, and krokrodua shared with them. The participants were also trained to understand the requirements on the tree registration forms, including the fact that planting and nurturing economic trees on your land does constitute ownership in Ghana. Farmers were also taught to utilize GPS to measure the coordinates and polygons of their trees and land.
